An intense orange spice - very popular in Asian cuisine and increasingly used in Italy - Curcuma (Curcuma longa) is considered useful in fighting oxidative stress and inflammation and in containing blood sugar levels. Indeed, it seems that it may even have a preventive function: according to a study published in the scientific journal Diabetes Care and following a 9-month trial, administering a curcuma extract to prediabetic subjects may inhibit the complete development of the disease. Curcuma also helps to counteract symptoms from diabetes (nerve damage, cataracts, kidney problems, etc.), but balanced diet, exercise, and stress reduction are of course fundamental too.
