For most Italians, choosing a healthy diet is the key to well-being. This focus on more conscious eating is a key theme of the upcoming edition of SANA Food.
Eating well is the first step to feeling fit: this is the opinion of 57% of Italians, who consider nutrition to be the most important factor concerning their health.
This is confirmed by the latest survey by UniSalute and Nomisma Healthcare Research which reveals a clear preference for a balanced diet: fruit and vegetables are part of the daily routine of 63% of respondents, 66% avoid savoury snacks and almost one in two limits their consumption of sweets. Bread, pasta and rice remain essential for 86% of the sample.
Broadening the view, the statistics highlight the importance of adopting a balanced lifestyle, balancing work rhythms with moments dedicated to leisure time (41%), and reducing, if not eliminating altogether, harmful habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption (40%). One out of four people also consider rest to be essential, and many are committed to improving the quality of their sleep.
Physical activity seems to be much less popular: 21% say they are sedentary and only 37% exercise regularly, although this percentage is up on 2023. It should be noted that women still tend to exercise less than men (32% compared to 42%).
Overall, 87% of respondents say they are in good health, but the situation changes when it comes to mental well-being: 21% consider their psychological state to be “poor” or “very poor”. The main trigger? Stress, which, according to 47%, can only have negative repercussions on people.
These and other topics will be discussed in depth at SANA Food, the event dedicated to healthy and conscious eating, an opportunity to reflect on how to improve quality of life through healthier choices. Starting with eating habits out of home.
