Consorzio Sigillo Italiano is a consortium dedicated to the enhancement and promotion of beef produced in Italy in accordance with controlled and certified quality standards.
It was established with the objective of protecting and adding value to an organized supply chainthat adheres to the National Livestock Quality System (SQNZ), ensuring clear rules, rigorous controls, and full transparency throughout all stages of production.
On the one hand, the Consortium provides farmers and supply chain operators with the opportunity to differentiate themselves from undifferentiated production by adopting production specifications that reflect Italian qualitative, cultural, and production characteristics. Even in the case of calves born abroad, such as in France, the application of the Sigillo Italiano label certifies that rearing, fattening, and the entire production process take place in Italy in accordance with recognized and verified standards.
On the other hand, the Consortium safeguards the end consumer by enabling informed purchasing decisions. Through the Sigillo Italiano brand, consumers are assured of buying a controlled, certified, and fully traceable product, with clear knowledge of its origin, production chain, and the values underpinning that meat. The Consortium’s mission is therefore twofold: to enhance the work of farmers and to guarantee transparency, safety, and trust for consumers.
What inspired your participation in SANA Food 2026, and what goals or expectations are guiding you in this new edition?
SANA Food represents an ideal setting for us to engage with a discerning, well-informed audience that is sensitive to issues related to health, sustainability, and the origin of food products. Participation in SANA Food 2026 is part of the European project In Europe We Care for Beef, with the aim of communicating the value of certified European beef and dispelling certain common misconceptions associated with meat consumption. Our objective is to foster direct dialogue with industry professionals, buyers, and end consumers, providing knowledge-based tools and promoting informed and responsible dietary choices.
Today’s consumers are increasingly conscious about health and well-being. How has this awareness influenced your production choices or inspired new product concepts?
This growing level of attention has strengthened our commitment to an even more tightly controlled and certified supply chain. Through the National Livestock Quality System, identifiable under the umbrella brand of the Consorzio Sigillo Italiano, we promote farming systems that comply with rigorous Italian and European standards in terms of animal welfare, food safety, and environmental sustainability. At the same time, we invest in information and outreach activities: educating consumers about how the product is produced, the controls it undergoes, and how it can be correctly incorporated into a balanced diet is now an integral part of our work.
Tradition and innovation often go hand in hand in a company’s growth journey. How do you manage to honor your roots while giving them a contemporary interpretation?
Tradition represents our starting point: skills, crafts, and know-how that have been passed down through generations along the beef supply chain. Innovation comes into play through increasingly advanced systems of control, certification, and communication, as well as through new ways of engaging with consumers. The EUCAREBEEF project was created precisely to communicate a strong and well-established tradition using a modern approach, grounded in scientific evidence, transparency, and education.
Transparency, sustainability, and traceability have become essential values in today’s market. How do you bring these principles to life in your distribution practices?
These values translate into clear and verifiable traceability systems, allowing the product to be tracked throughout the entire supply chain, from farming to distribution. Sustainability is addressed in a concrete manner, in compliance with Italian and European production specifications, by promoting environmentally, socially, and economically responsible practices. Through the Consorzio Sigillo Italiano and the In Europe We Care for Beef project, we work to ensure that end consumers are provided with accurate, accessible, and certified information, enabling them to make informed and confident choices.
